2013 is set to become the year of Reebok Classics. With the Classic Leather’s 30th anniversary, Pump bring-backs and Kamikaze models already generating buzz in the sneaker world, it was recently announced that the Shaq Attaq and Shaqnosis will also return for Spring/Summer 2013. Yesterday, with a press event at PROJECT — part of the Magic trade show in Las Vegas – Reebok Classics welcomed the legendary Shaquille O’Neal back into the family, a familiar sighting that harkens back to 1992. Seeking to make the strongest possible statement on the court that year, Reebok needed a “larger than life” presence that it found in Shaq, at that time the most dominant big man in the game. The partnership yielded two of the most revered basketball shoes of all time – the Shaq Attaq and the Shaqnosis. The Shaq Attaq featured two of Reebok’s most innovative technologies of the era — Pump technology in the tongue and Graphlite — the latter being a plastic, incredibly strong fiber which allowed Reebok to strip away heavy rubber and create a sleeker, lighter silhouette, while still providing incredible stability. The silhouette was also was also revered from a design perspective, cutting a distinctive look and reflecting the imposing presence of the Big Diesel. The Shaq Attaq will hit retailers in April at fine sneaker retailers worldwide and online, with the Shaqnosis set to follow sometime this fall.
