“I was heavily influenced by British design and fashion and it was fairly hard to show this type of style through the NEIGHBORHOOD line, so I decided to start a brand new line in which this could be showcased,” Shinsuke Takizawa said recently of LUKER by NEIGHBORHOOD‘s origins. Those English inspirations appear to have surfaced again for Spring/Summer 2013 in a collection that references classic British style, yet also manages to stay contemporary and distinctly Japanese. This season’s lookbook juxtaposes driving caps with modern garments like a technical spring jacket in blue and orange — British only in its quilted shoulder paneling — while a more traditional sand-colored Harrington jacket and lightweight rider’s jacket come emblazoned with the Union Jack. Elsewhere, Sid Vicious and Joe Strummer appear in prints on tees and shirts, lending a grittier, punk edge to the collection’s military and gentlemanly inspirations.
