Since its formation in 2010, Communion Records has been a pioneer in nurturing unknown talents into some of the most talked-about burgeoning acts in the singer-songwriter and alternative folk genres. With its roots in the UK and Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons as one of its heads, the label has discovered, signed and helped develop the likes of Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard and Daughter. If you are a fan of any of those three, then you should be intrigued by the talent of Communion’s latest signee, Joe Banfi. The Northwich, England native makes dark, acoustic-driven music that could easily be placed in a playlist with the aforementioned artists; however, with Deftones and Nirvana amongst his biggest inspirations, a unique edge shines through in his creations. The grunge influence is palpable in his new single, “Nomads,” but that’s certainly not a bad thing. Watch the intriguing split-screen visuals to the song above, which depict a pensive Banfi in the midst of nature on a cold winter day, and look out for his upcoming EP by the same name to land on March 4.
