Captured with artistic elegance, NOWNESS contributor Sharif Hamza presents a moving black and white film inspired by the daring sport of freestyle motocross. Titled “Dreams of Levitation,” the film enlists professional riders Tim O’Brien and Greg Garrison who rev across the Nevada plain and performing tricks effortlessly, while closer shots see model Shaun de Wet dressed in metallic biker gear designed by New York designer Tim Coppen. A moving clip that blends the world of fashion, sports and cinematography, “Dreams of Levitation” narrates a washed up rider in his later years, reminiscing on the excitement his career once provided. Hamza worked with writer Laura Albert — also known as JT LeRoy — on the copy, exploring romance behind the extreme sport, its lifespan, and a time when the rider was at his most robust.
