One of Japan’s most coveted collegiate relay marathons – the Hakone Ekiden – is a nearly century-old two-day event that takes place every year on January 2 and 3. Consisting of 20 universities, each team enlists 10 runners to complete a 218 km course that travels from Ōtemachi to Hakone and back again. Though we’re still a few months away from seeing this event’s start, Nike decided to create the Air Max 95 “Ekiden” Pack as the student athletes begin their rigorous training for the grueling relay. The five-part collection features colorways that match some of the most competitive universities including Josai, Kanagawa, Komazawa, Waseda and Toyo. Though its subdued palettes would be enjoyed by American sneaker enthusiasts, there is no word on whether the “Ekiden” Pack will see a stateside release. In the meantime, mita sneakers is now selling all five pairs.
