Jon Waltz - Bang

When listening to Jon Waltz, it’s not hard to tell that the Memphis, Tennessee native is only 18 years old. His voice sounds like it hasn’t quite grown into itself yet. His flows seem incomplete, like he’s not yet entirely sure where to take them. His song structure and writing has an aura of familiarity, as if the most popular rappers of the past several years soundtracked his adolescence and gave birth to his style. There’s really nothing wrong with all of that, though. Everyone has to start somewhere, and Waltz is off to a good pace with his newly finished single, “Bang.” With a mix of rapping and singing over a nicely chosen King Krule sample, Waltz shows his capability to make songs that are mature for his age, yet still catchy enough to get young music blog devotees talking.
