To title Yoann Lemoine as a musician would be exempting his fortes as a multi-talented creative, one who’s eclectic taste stretches across multiple disciplines. With his feet firmly planted in the realms of music production, graphic-design, video directing and singer-song writing, the twenty-nine-year old artist, better known as Woodkid, is nothing short of inventive, morphing ethereal ideas with descriptive narratives in his renditions. With the likes of Drake, Katy, Perry and Lana Del Rey all opting for the Woodkid-treatment to their music videos, the French artist’s experimental delivery has garnered an earnest following. Meanwhile, his very own clips “Iron” and “Run Boy Run” positions him as one of the most talked-about contemporaries, with critics often throwing in terms like “industrial-pop” or “neofolk” in hopes of pinning down his compelling style. Lemoine’s highly-anticipated debut album, The Golden Age offered a musical summary to his influences from across the board, with sound, text and visuals stringing the masterpiece together. While Lemoine’s visuals are often hectic in design, his Music Essentials see a more simple display. Here, an SLR camera, flash, and solid headphones are fundamental in soundtracking and capturing his inspirations, while we also get a glimpse at the book that taught him “how to use color,” in addition to the garment that fully rounds up his signature look. Glance through the captions above to learn more about why Lemoine keeps each of these items close to him at all times.
