Joey Bada$$ is largely credited as one of the more faithful ‘Golden Era’ revivalists in modern hip-hop, with a style that sounds like a collage of New York’s finest MCs. Thanks to Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound venture, Bada$$ got the opportunity to team up with DJ Premier – the man who is fervently argued to have invented and mastered the said hard-hitting, ominous production style. Fans of old and new sounds alike will surely agree that “Unorthodox” sounds as much 2013 as it does 1994, but perhaps this attests to the cyclical nature of all great art.
