Olivier Rousteing helms Balmain‘s Fall/Winter 2013 collection, marked by a romantic fusion between Eastern and Western sensibilities. With the most obvious signs of Asian influences coming from the asymmetrical closures and obi-like leather and woven belts, the attention to detail in the embroidery and ornately decorated leathers influenced by lamellar armor attest to the Parisian fashion house’s craftsmanship and appreciation for its source material.
While it appears that much of the world is still out to lunch on drop crotch pants paired with haute couture, the patterning and stitching applied to the many pairs of richly colored slim-fit pants is an innovative and certainly well-executed blending of the two aesthetics.
