Kanye West Sued Over 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' Samples

Kanye West is no stranger to the judicial system when it comes to samples arrangements as he’s already had a case brought up against him earlier this year over for his work on Jay-Z’s “Girls, Girls, Girls (Remix).” Today, Billboard shares that Mr. West could be heading back to court after being sued by record label TufAmerica over samples used in two tracks from his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, “Who Will Survive in America?” and ”Lost in the World.” The two songs both include samples from “Hook and Sling, Part 1,” created by New Orleans jazz artist Eddie Bo, which TufAmerica says it bought the rights more than 15 years ago. TufAmerica claims that West’s labels Roc-A-Fella and Universal paid a license fee of $62,500 but ”failed and refused to enter into written license agreements that accounted for their multiple other uses of ['Hook and Sling'],” and they’re now seeking undisclosed damages for copyright infringement.
