March 26 marked the first time in the history of skateboarding that anyone had landed a 1080 and had the footage to prove it – shockingly completed by 12-year-old Tom Schaar. Skating since he was four, the logical progression from 540 to 900 to 1080 occurred naturally as if there was no doubt that Schaar would be able to pull it off. Comprised of three complete rotations, Schaar was able to achieve the amazing feat after only five attempts on the mega ramp at Woodward. In addition, Tom Schaar holds the distinction of also being the youngest X Games gold medalist after taking home the top prize in Beijing at the MiniMega Event.
