In light of last Friday’s tragic incident in Newtown, Connecticut, David Morris, aka D-WHY, takes a step away from his usual hip-hop roots and shows fans another side of his artistic talent with the release of his new song “Song For Newtown.” Penning the track minutes after hearing of the tragedy, Morris enters the realm of folk singer-songwriter, and shares the tune under his government name. With the thought of helping those directly effected by what took place last week at Sandy Hook Elementary school, the song is currently available on iTunes, and Morris will donate 100% of the proceeds from sales to the Sandy Hook Elementary School Fund set up by The United Way. Morris went on to share:
I was so troubled and touched by this terrible tragedy. I have nieces and a nephew who are the same ages as the children who were lost in Newtown. I can’t fathom what the families and friends of those lost are going through, but I hope that this song can bring a little solace to those affected by the tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Newtown community.
As a music artist, I wanted to use my creativity and reach to give young people an easy way to donate and contribute that they are already accustomed to. Most people use iTunes, so it’s just a click of a button.
