For over a decade, video game developer Valve’s tactical first-person shooter Counter-Strike has reigned as one of the PC’s most popular hits. What started as a modification from the Valve title Half-Life grew into a retail game of its own, spawning a cultural boom around the title spanning worldwide tournaments, professional gaming leagues, and consecutive offshoots of the game. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launches in early 2012, which will be the next major installment since 2004’s Counter-Strike: Source. Players can look forward to a slew of new maps, characters, weapons and game modes, as well as updated fan-favorite content. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will span numerous platforms including PC, Mac, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
