In February 2005, Gym Class Heroes’ sophomore album, The Papercut Chronicles, was released via indie label partners Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen to what was then a relatively small but rapidly rising fanbase. That album set the Heroes on their course for commercial success, which arguably peaked in 2006-2007 after the alternative hip-hop band released their third album, As Cruel as School Children. After a not-as-successful fourth album in 2008 and a solo project from frontman Travis McCoy last year, it appeared as though there was hope for original Gym Class fans when it was announced that the band’s fifth album would be a follow-up to their second. However, even though it’s titled The Papercut Chronicles 2 and McCoy did state a while back that “it’s definitely going back to the essence of Gym Class Heroes,” many contrary arguments will probably rise over the album’s first single, which was released yesterday. The song, entitled “Stereo Hearts,” features a chorus by Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and production by pop heavy-hitter Benny Blanco. If there are any Gym Class Heroes fans out there, is this the type of music that you want to hear from the band?
