Bearing the name of its founder René Lacoste, French sporting label represented among the first few sporting brands founded by a sporting legend. In an article by Ivy Style, they break down the essence of the brand. In the prime of his tennis career, Lacoste would develop a polo shirt which would soon be an important mark through the preppy sporting ranks of both tennis and golf. Known for its great fit, quality and availability in several colors, up until the ’70s, the brand was ubiquitous through the preppy world. Allegedly inspiring Ralph Lauren’s own famous polo, the brand waned a bit as Ralph Lauren’s version gained traction. Regardless, the brand is far from dead but a good historical account of the early developments can be seen via the Ivy Style article here.
