Welcome to the newest edition of Hypetrak’s Weekly Set series. Italian super duo The Bloody Beetroots garnered last week’s top spot with their electronica-infused rendition of Britney Spears’ new single “Till the World Ends.” Next in line comes the long overdue comeback of Santigold who cleverly teamed up with Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O for “GO.” Enlisting Q-Tip for the creative work behind the board proved to be a smart choice as well. While the world is still waiting for Drake’s announced R&B mixtape, a previously unreleased verse from one of his biggest tunes to date, “Successful,” appeared online and immediately caught the ear of our readers. In honors of Proof, who died five years ago, Paul Rosenberg brought forth the rare J Dilla-produced track “The Fizzo” from the Detroit rapper. Rounding up the top five comes a rather unusual pairing with dance floor aficionados Far East Movement and Bruno Mars for a new version of their popular “Rocketeer” tune.
Further highlights encompass Donnis with “Ring My Bell,” Curren$y and Freddie Gibbs honoring “Scottie Pippen,” Wale and Meek Mill going “100Hunnit,” a synthed-out refix of Busy P’s “Procrastinator” by Hey Today!, and “The Return” of California’s very own Diz Gibran.
Last week also saw the release of interesting music videos. Bruno Mars’ aped-out “Lazy Song” which was shot in one take certainly belongs to the highlights of the past seven days. Also J Rocc’s visual for “Stay Fresh” which was created by Mayer Hawthorne’s iPhone. Minnesota’s Atmosphere also served an entertaining visual for their new single “She’s Enough” as well as The Cool Kids with “Bundle Up.” Brooklyn’s TV on the Radio offered 60 minutes of their live skills on David Letterman and the accompanying movie for their new album Nine Types of Light. Last but definitely not least comes James Goldwatch’s Cudder documentary The Journey of Mr. Rager.
As previously reported, the Coachella festival wrapped up a few hours ago. In order to make sure that you have not missed anything, go here. Find the audio recap as well as further highlights below!
