Just when you thought Burberry couldn’t possibly come up with yet another way to redesign its classic outerwear, the ubiquitous British house has updated its traditional, heritage-inspired aesthetic with an approach that’s completely and utterly modern. For Fall 2011, Burberry Prorsum’s Creative Director Christopher Bailey dug deep into the label’s archives to deliver a truly unique collection of all-weather pieces. Opening with an array of brightly colored, buffalo checked coats, Bailey slowly introduced an interesting cocoon-sleeved silhouette followed by down jackets, camel coats and thick-soled shoes with deep grooves and leather tassels. Things took an unusual turn when one by one, models began appearing on the runway in a slew of fur-covered looks ranging from fur shirts and hats, to tweed overcoats with fur accents. The show’s finale was nothing less than theatrical when the models walked out into a mock rainstorm wearing clear slickers. Those of you who can’t wait until autumn to get your hands on these pieces will be pleased to know that Burberry has made every coat available for immediate purchase until Jan. 23 on Burberry.com.
