Among American music’s most influential recording artists of all-time, Johnny Cash garnered much attention for his controversial lifestyle and strong support of various groups including prisoners and Native Americans. Among Cash’s most popular works, the live album Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison took place in the prison’s cafeteria amidst a packed house of inmates. In an upcoming documentary revolving around that fateful album recording, the life of Johnny Cash is carefully examined and juxtaposed against the lives of two of Folsom’s own prisoners. The end result is a better understanding of the “Man in Black” and the era in which he reigned over. The inaugural West Coast screening takes place October 3rd at The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
