“Pinrolling” means rolling up your jeans for the purpose of not getting your kicks stained by the denim or if you’re a fixed gear rider, then its to avoid the oil on the chain ring. However, pinrolling has slowly became a style on its own perpetuated by “What Did You Wear Today” threads on various message boards. Here’s the latest from Levi’s Fenom which are the Rollup Cropped Color Jeans. These jeans have already been shortened saving you the trouble of rolling them up. Coming in three colors, these jeans are now available at Tab Device.

It’s easy to look at Chicago and Detroit bred hip hop duo The Cool Kids and see their penchant for dressing head to toe in old school gear, the occasional rope chain, skinny jeans and the latest sneakers displayed on HYPEBEAST daily and dismiss them as revival retro “hipster rap”. However, to do so is purely superficial and completely missing the sonic sophistication they have displayed as they have garnered a fanatic cult following in the underground rap scene. The duo piece together explosive bass booms, bone shattering, hard as nails snares and kicks with occasional light electro accents as if Rick Rubin was back in his NYU dorm room with modern equipment. Lyrically, the boys sound eerily like a teenage Eric Sermon and Parish Smith as they boast and brag their way through their verses that go from the purposely simple to borderline intricate as they explore their lyrical talent and attempt to get comfortable with their flow.
The Cool Kids’ “The Bake Sale EP” is out now on iTunes will be released in stores on June 10th. While die-hard fans have heard most of the tracks featured here, new listeners get a chance to hear what the group has in store. On the EP, the combination of sparse minimalist beats and golden era hardcore raps at first sound like you stumbled upon a forgotten release from 1988. But, the playful subject matter that reference custom bikes more than custom whips show a group more concerned with making their mark rather than just some kids who stumbled upon some old Run-DMC records and decided to form a tribute band. The track “What up Man” is probably the best example of the minimalist vibe that perfectly personifies the groups sound.

It’s been raining like crazy the last few days, really puts a damper mood on everything. However, we’d had the privilege being graced by a new regular fixture at the office in Jefford. At the tender age of 19, he’s become the new office whipping boy/un-official intern and claimed the title of undisputed HYPEBEAST of the office. This week we bring you our top pics of the week including Paul Smith’s latest watch collection, WTAPS tees, Nas’ upcoming album and the Eliminator x Michael Linnell Mega Messenger Bag.

American bag maker, Lazy Monk, made a very intricate messenger bag for world famous cyclist, Lance Armstrong. Lazy Monk is started by two artists, Ry and Aya, in 2007, striving to make simple bags that provide warmth and functional beauty. The very delicate pattern in front is called the Sashiko pattern, which are all hand-stitched by the founders themselves. It seems that Lazy Monk is on their way to success with this simple but sophisticated bag.

No matter whom your candidate of choice is in the 2008 election, the reverberations of change and history could be felt a few nights ago when Barack Obama took the stage in St. Paul and announced that he is the presumptive nominee for the democratic party. Since the beginning of hip hop music MCs have used beats and rhymes as a platform to voice descent, opinion and protest. However, the actual political process of conducting a campaign for a candidate has been few and far in-between. There has always been a pervasive feeling amongst the urban community that politicians are non-responsive to their problems or concerns. Therefore, advocating for a president seemed useless or even counterproductive.
However, this seemed to all wash away since Obama, the first African American democratic nominee, first announced his candidacy as several MCs took to the studio to pen rhymes as inspirational as the man himself. The most notable pro Obama song so far is Will I Am’s “Yes We Can” which was actually featured at several Obama rallies. Now one of the most outspoken MCs on the political front, Nas takes on the subject matter with his release “Black President”. The DJ Green Lantern Produced track splices parts of Obama’s speeches as Nas lends his poetical prose to a thoughtful track about the possibility of the first black president.
