While online sales of sneakers are a lucrative business to say the least — adidas alone made a whopping $637 million USD from online sales last year — a large majority of consumers still prefer physical retail stores when shoe shopping for the luxury of trying out the fit and feel of a shoe before you buy them. This is an especially salient point for joggers, as the performance of a new running shoe by far trumps its looks — but how much are you really paying for the physical experience?
Performance footwear comparison website RunRepeat set out to end that debate once and for all, compiling 183,911 prices across a three-day period and concluding that consumers save an average of 38 percent when buying running shoes online, while 86 percent of all running shoes are available at a discount online. The accompanying infographic also does the civic duty of listing out the average savings of every brand online, while also offering up some interesting tidbits concerning different factors that drive the price up or down.
