Earlier this week, Jay Z published a short film titled The War on Drugs is an Epic Fail with the New York Times, highlighting the qualms of society of how drug dealers/users are demonized, while bigger, more fundamental issues like the defunding of schools and social injustice — were largely ignored. “The NYPD raided our Brooklyn neighborhoods while Manhattan bankers openly used coke with impunity,” Jay says in his film. The clip would eventually make its rounds and would catch the attention of one time presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, who fully co-signed Hov for his stance. “Jay Z is right: We have to end the war on drugs,” Sanders tweeted. For those who haven’t watched, the shortfilm showed some compelling statistics to illustrate how the war on drugs has been a complete waste of time, money and effort. Watch it here if you haven’t already.
