Kanye West Announces New Design Company Called DONDA

Kanye West has announced the launch of his new design company, DONDA, set to create “products and experiences” for people. The company will encompass 22 different divisions, including architects, graphic designers, directors, producers, social media experts, publishers, lawyers, nutritionists, scientists, doctors, teachers, A&R’s, etc. Through numerous tweets, Yeezy revealed that he intends to “help simplify and aesthetically improve everything we see hear, touch, taste and feel.”

The multifaceted artist further clarified recent reports about his upcoming clothing line for women by negating that it would be named “DW” after his mother, Dr. Donda West. “The name of the line is Kanye West not DW,…the DW was a design element placed on the invite in homage to my mom.” All the proceeds from his hit albums like The Throne’s Watch the Throne have been invested in his entire endeavor within the fashion world. “You guys might think I have some type of backing for my line but I don’t,” Kanye said. “I did the first fashion show out of my own pocket and used the money I made touring to follow my passion. I’ve been working at this for 8 years now.”

In addition, he offered a personal recount on his deep dedication in fashion, asserting that his international reputation has been rather an obstacle than help.
“For the first 16 or 17 years of my life the only thing I knew about my woman’s clothing was what my Mom would wear. I guess some critics would joke that I still don’t know anything LOL. The teachers said I couldn’t focus… I used to get kicked out of class for bringing dirty mags and drawing Nikeys in 4th grade…Being a celebrity has afforded me many opportunities but has also boxed me in creatively,” Kanye revealed. “What good is fame and prestige if you can’t use it to help people… I want to help by doing what I know how to do best .. create.”

Furthermore, Kanye stated that he intends to reshape the American school system, which he says was “designed to turn people into factory workers.” That includes starting a summer school with director Spike Jonze. “There are so many broken systems from the economy to school systems jail systems… we need experts for this.” Ambitious plans indeed.     I already said I like most of his music. Key word: music. His autotune album sucked though, naturally.

    Look, I don’t care if he wants to play the role of philanthropist and assemble a team of “experts”. Good for him.     you are a complete moron. kanye never said he wanted to single-handedly change the school system. what i got from his idea, ambitious but nevertheless amazing, is that he wants to create/assemble DONDA in order to bring together great minds that ARE qualified to make such “design” changes in their area of expertise. i hate people like you that search for a weakness in someone’s idea, and when you find that simple lapse you direct all your hatred towards that and disregard the bigger picture. he never said he, alone had the means to do it and that is exactly why he is asking those who do to reach out. kanye may not be the most eloquent speaker/writer but he has inspiring and almost absurdly optimistic ideas, and maybe that’s how he got to where he is, and he doesn’t look like he’s stopping now. you on the other hand, you might call yourself a “realist” or something foolish like that, but you’re just a pessimistic simpleton and you’ll never go anywhere in life.

    I see a lot of people on this site are doubters, haters, dream-killers. My opinion is that ya’ll should stop letting your emotions control your thoughts and think objectively. He is an artist that is using his power to attempt to make a difference. Is there really anything wrong with that? How many other artists are there that do this? Exactly: None. So instead of pinpointing every problem and probing for more, why not back up and look at the bigger picture?

Why can’t he have an organization where he feels that he can improve on someone’s life buy having doctors, nutritionist and scientist?     If he pulls this off in any way, shape, or form as described above, then he deserves to gain all the respect he has lost over the years from just being a human being. Here on Hypebeast I find great articles, some cool things in the world, and a bunch of young, pretentious people waiting for someone to define what is cool for the moment. Being an artist myself I have found that today talent is not as important as who people think you are. We are a media driven society lacking creative minds and saturating cool. We don’t innovate we steal ideas from Japan and the UK as they did during our prime. I thought Kanye had the ability to change Hip Hop when I first heard his music, he did raise the bar, but his personality set him back. We couldn’t even accept the greatest producer our generation because he spoke out and said what he felt. He was a human being who said fuck a publicist.
