Casa Brutus Magazine | A Look into Nigo’s Home

Posted by: L.A. Ruano / September 11, 2008 / 13 Comments

Japanese interior design/architecture magazine Casa Brutus recently caught up with entrepreneur extraordinaire Nigo for a view of his home. Most famous for being the founder of clothing giant Bape, Nigo takes Brutus Casa on a tour of his domicile, showing us a side not seen very often. Along with a life size Colonel Sanders statue and plethora of Kaws companions, the house combines a love for furniture and tasteful design including gigantic prints plastered on his walls. More images after the jump.

It’s actually “Casa Brutus”, “Brutus” being the original lifestyle magazine, with “Casa…” being the home edition, so to speak.

to jkard,
it’s just a limited capacity of understanding on your part.
if you can develop a little visual literacy and art/architectural history knowledge you will see why these items hold value. it’s not about price either.

NIgo is quite gay.. I think he likes little boys and girls.. at least that’s the feeling i get towards him.

i dont think Nigo is perverted or gay. he once said he’s favorite movie is “BIG,” one with Tom Hanks becomes an adult with the mind of kid. I think he’s more of Peter Pan in the Wonderland who wishes to stay as a kid forever.

btw ive gotten chance to see his house time to time. he’s a truly OTAKU on the whole another level. Collection of Star Wars, Planets of the APE, The Beatles,n Andy Warhol art pieces, LV bags.

maybe he does live in his own fantasy world, but im so glad to get a climpse of it through his amazing works.

I’ve met Nigo many times. He isn’t gay, perverted or such. He just lives in his own world, which is fantastically childish, yet somehow led him to dream up an entire empire called Bathing Ape. I think his otaku collections are admirable and unique.

hey “to jkard,” i have a pretty strong understanding of the history of architecture, design and fine art, and i would like an explanation of why this stuff is so great. Kaws is no andy warhol or jeff koons (i never even liked warhol’s pieces but he developed the genre and made important philosophical statements about art and society in general), in fact in my opinion he is the most overrated artist in the world. i’m a mediocre painter and illustrator and have never been impressed by kaws’ technique or style. you know, copying something but putting x’s and skulls on it. but of course art and design are subjective and so we can all have our opinions. what bothers me are comments like yours that claim to have some great reason behind why something is so good, but then you never chose to educate us all on why this style is so innovative or important. if you claim to be smarter than somebody why not educate them in the process. because to me nigo’s house looks like a cheesy theme restaurant. open rooms crowded with minimalist furniture with walls out of tgi fridays, and worst of all, tons of pictures of himself. there is no cohesion or true originality to the design, just recoginzable images but over-done and over-crowded, and that is what i don’t like about bape or nigo’s aesthetic in general.
on an unrelated note, i thought chopstickthugz made a hilarious comment:
“i dont think Nigo is perverted or gay. he once said he’s favorite movie is “BIG,” one with Tom Hanks becomes an adult with the mind of kid. I think he’s more of Peter Pan in the Wonderland who wishes to stay as a kid forever.”
i don’t have an opinion on whether or not nigo is gay, and i don’t care either way, but don’t you know that big and peter pan are about the two gayest pieces of fiction ever release? i mean, to say that someone likes big, or is like peter pan, is reasoning that they probably aren’t gay just makes so little sense that i actually laughed out loud.
since i’m writing the longest post ever, here’s one for “love other men’s shoes.” what i love is the irony of some idiot whining about how people are critics, meanwhile they are criticizing the responses people wrote on a blog. if you had ever done anything creative in your life you would know that criticism just comes with the territory. most artists learn at a young age to take criticism for what it is and to learn what they can from it and dismiss the parts that aren’t constructive to them, otherwise they never would worked through the hard times to become successful in a creative field. nigo doesn’t need you to stick up for him, his success alone shows he clearly has much thicker skin than a pussy like you.
