How to Pronounce Designer Names Tutorial
by L.A. Ruano, July 30, 2008

For all the rookies in the fashion industry and even some veterans, this tutorial is for you. We have all made the mistake at least once, saying BUR-berry instead of BUR-bur-ree. After checking this out you will not only be more designer savy but no longer a rookie in the field.

I didn’t have a proper look on here but I noticed how you pronounced Yves Saint Laurent. He was French so if you want to pronounce it correctly it would be more like ‘Eve-san-law-ran’ as in French you wouldn’t pronounce the t or the i. Great idea doing this though!
… the silent h is the easy part of “hermes” … i think ppl get confused with the ending … u kno “may” or “mez” … i kno how to pronounce it … do u???
This is some pretty funny stuff.
you guys forgot another doozy… ermenegildo zegna… try that on for size
though these are perhaps the most suitable phonetics for american natives as they are unlikely to be able to pronounce the names a hundred percent correct, most of the phonetics are wrong, I used to live in France and roc it’s air-mez indeed, no her-mez because french do not pronounce the h but instead put the syllable stress on the vowel that stands behind the h (dee-oar Om), with the stress on the O as well as the French tend to pronounce it as one word (deeoar-Om)
i’ve been wanting to know how “Raf” as in Raf Simons was pronounced for the longest time.
no, “air-mez” or “her-mez” is the proper way of saying it. the may thing is wrong.
I thought it was CoMAY DAY GarCONs for the longest time lol
its BAAA PE….sucks cuz SHEEEPS love it…arab parrot argh!!!!
actually – her-mehz is wrong. it’s “air-may”
free willy – if you look at the table vs your post, they actually did “burberry” correctly. and THANK GOD people will learn how to say “hermes” correctly.
I think this is a pretty cool resource. It keeps you from looking like an asshole when you go to a store and ask for one of these designers lol
burBERry? or “burBURry?” haha ive actually always said it burBURry : P
are you supposed to say loo-E vo-We-ton with a french accent. too? psh… and it’s Bur-Berry not Bur-Ber-Erry
CLICK! Rookies still on some LN – Don’t forget the maaaaay-back or your odd-mar pi-gay!
who cares if its proper, its about time some one cared about pronouciation
yes they are
Those aren’t even proper phonetics
