Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs is the eponymous label of American fashion designer, Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs both encompass apparel, accessories, shoes, beauty and perfume among many products. Marc Jacobs currently has over 200 stores worldwide in over 80 countries. Incepted soon after being fired after an unsuccessful collection at Perry Ellis, Marc Jacobs designed his first collection bearing the Marc Jacobs label in 1986 through backing by Onward Kashiyama. A year later, Jacobs won the prestigious CFDA Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent, being the youngest designer to win the honor. Founding the Marc Jacobs International company with his friend, Robert Duffy, in 1993, Jacobs produced a full men’s collection the following year. After a few collections, Jacobs and Duffy sold 96% of the company’s shares to LVMH in 1997, in the same year that the designer was named creative director of Louis Vuitton. Marc Jacobs introduced his diffusion line, Marc by Marc Jacobs in 2001. In his S/S 2014 show, Marc Jacobs announced that he would be stepping down from Louis Vuitton to focus on his brand in preparation for an IPO. In 2015 it was reported that Marc Jacobs will be shutting down Marc By Marc Jacobs, which will be folded into the main line, Marc Jacobs.
