Shawn Mortensen Out of Mind Exhibition

As a photographer, Shawn Mortensen’s talents and skills have resulted in him becoming a powerful force in the photography community. His work includes fashion and music as well as provocative and touching photo essays spanning the globe. The official opening party taking place tonight includes a series of never before available photographs for sale including personalities such as Tupac, Biggie, Snoop, James Brown, Sonic Youth and the Beastie Boys among others. Other highlights include a special bound ‘zine documenting Mortensen’s work since 2001 and recently found deadstock prints of a collaborative effort with Shepard Fairey. The exhibition will take place tonight at the Max Fish Gallery in New York. Neighborhood looks to Hong Kong as the setting for its latest Hoods flagship store. An exhibition titled Previously Opening will commence prior to the opening on March 8th and will conclude on the 24th. For both Neighborhood and WTAPS, their existence and popularity all started on the simple t-shirt and this will represent the desired medium for both brands to introduce their concept and themes to the Hong Kong public. Previously Opening will also be the first show featured outside of Japan for both Tetsu Nishiyama (WTAPS) and Shinsuke Takizawa (Neighborhood). Last night marked the opening of a new show at Frank151’s Chop Shop as it presented the works by artist Steve Ellis in association with Frank151 and Shut Skateboards. The exhibition covered your favorite assortment of cutting tools from butterfly knives, to meat slicers and switchblades. A special three way collaboration deck was created for the event bearing a barber’s blade and the line “A slip of the foot you may soon recover, but a slip of the tongue you may never get over”. Last night, Converse held a launch party for Dr. Romanelli’s new Converse (RED) shoe in Los Angeles. The new shoe was made with (PRODUCT) RED which is a program to help fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. Inspired by the (PRODUCT) RED project, Dr. Romanelli went out to create a band-aid motif Chuck Taylor. According to Supertouch, Dr. Romanelli said: “The 1HUND(RED) Artists project really motivated me to create something unique and I choose the band-aids as a fix for positive change.” Aside from the unveiling of Dr. Romanelli’s sneaker, a high octane exhibition included other artist created footwear and artworks including Hiroshi Fujiwara (Japan), Jeremyville (Australia), Michael White for Dondi White (USA), Colletivo Design (Brazil), Grandpeople (Norway), Mike Schall (USA), Supakitch (France) and UPSO (USA).
