It’s hard to imagine streetwear without the military-inspired world of Tetsu Nishiyama and his brand WTAPS. While streetwear now has been more of a buzzword for luxury brands, it’s labels like WTAPS that continue to stay rooted to the fashion genre’s hard-nosed, workwear appeal. No matter how many times other brands try to spin military-wear, it never comes off as good as how Nishiyama and his team does it. 2019 signified how true this was as WTAPS continued its no-fuss approach to its signature styles — retooled army jackets, multi-pocket trousers and tough bomber jackets to name a few. Collaborations with fragment design, Herschel Supply co., Oakley and Human Made also expanded the Japanese label’s continuous global reach.
