As the founder of one of Japan’s streetwear heavyweights, Tetsu Nishiyama was busy overseeing the operations of WTAPS and the brand’s notable collaborations from the past year. Hotly-anticipated releases with decade-long collaborators Vans, and additional deliveries with Carhartt WIP, Helly Hansen and Kumba saw the label express itself through alternative mediums separate from its seasonal military and workwear offerings. Nishiyama’s other family-oriented label, DESCENDANT, which he founded with his wife Mikiko saw a fruitful 12 months as well, opening its flagship store in Aobadai. He also showcased his personal footwear collection through “MY IDENTIFICATION,” an exhibition held at THE PARK・ING GINZA and Belief Moscow.
