Established in 2014, Aimé Leon Dore, since selling out its initial run in all but 45 minutes, has made waves not only in the streetwear community but in the menswear landscape as a whole. At the helm is its founder Teddy Santis, a hard-nosed Queensbridge New Yorker who took aim at creating garments in a direct reflection of his beloved city. Mixing in refined uptown-inspired tailoring with gritty street-ready attitude, Santis keeps to sharp minimalism — ensuring the garments are part of an ongoing conversation rather than a trendy monologue. Without a fancy fashion degree to his name, the NYC native relied heavily on a sound business acumen and a keen fashion eye to position his ALD brand from a simple start-up to a label of relevance. Never too far removed from ground level operations, Santis sticks to a model of selling directly to consumers, keeping intimate control of every aspect of the brand experience.
