Achievement
As the mastermind behind WTAPS, FORTY PERCENTS AGAINST RIGHTS and DESCENDANT, Testu Nishiyama continues to prove incessantly innovative. 2017 saw a variety of releases from each of his brands and plenty of collaborations across the board. To name a few: WTAPS collaborated with Herschel Supply, BAPE, Helly Hansen and Porter; FPAR worked with Richardson; and DESCENDANT revised the adidas Campus sneaker. Beyond the collaborations, Nishiyama’s labels all released new clothing lines, pleasing loyal customers and winning new converts. In particular, DESCENDANT’s August drop was in such high demand that potential customers had to purchase tickets just to determine their place in the queue. Meanwhile, the designer continues to refine his artistic vision of his legacy labels. WTAPS and FPAR continue to incorporate their founding elements into new collections—military inspiration and striking graphics, respectively—but both have expanded beyond their core inspiration.
