1987 marked the debut of not only one of the most iconic skate graphics of all time, the “Screaming Hand” but also the release of Puma’s popular First Round Hi. As an homage to the most credible skate brands around, Puma will release a Screaming Hand influenced First Round Hi sneaker, including a matching t-shirt. The First Round features many design influences linked to the Jim Phillips designed Screaming Hand. Four different laces will be included upon the release, which has yet to be announced.

In a trend that began earlier this year with Solebox, Puma has been reaching out to some of their most prominent accounts and supporters and supplying them with special Puma Clydes. Gary Bone of Livestock was the latest on the receiving end of a new pair of Clydes featuring hand drawn graphics on an all white sneaker and “1 of 1” printed on the inside.
The latest bold concept to come out of the Puma creative lab is this upcoming Puma Suede 4th of July Firecracker Pack. Created with a strong likeness to your typical 4 of July activities, the monotone uppers feature a detailed tongue label complete with mock fuse and an image on the heel. If you aren’t down for the shenanigans of a concept like this, at the root of each pair is still a versatile pair of sneakers. No word on a release date, but typical of holiday-related releases, except these to drop in June.

For the launch of the Sneaker Freaker x Puma Blaze of Glory, Puma will be hosting a party at the German sneaker boutique Solebox on April 25th. Music will be provided by Mr. Miyagi, Jack Tennis, and Coop. If you’re in town, be sure to hit it up to grab some drinks, meet some people and see the shoes.
Continuing with No Mas and Puma’s “Lottery” collaboration is the Boston First Rounds. This time the sneaker is dedicated to the Boston Celtics superstar Reggie Lewis and thus you will see details that reflect that such as the green accents as well as an RIP armband on the heel. It also features an embroidered lottery ball pattern on the upper similar to the LA First Round. This shoe will be available in limited quantities starting March 17th only at Bodega.
In its 4th season, the Puma Table Tennis Tournament has become synonymous with overly competitive industry people at each other’s throats with both company pride and industry bragging rights on the line. For the 2008 PT3 edition, the tournament is leaving its original Chinatown roots and taking over The powerHouse Arena in Brooklyn. The formidable cast of participants include Formavision, NY Times, Nom De Guerre, Google, Comedy Central, joao, Flavorpill, rude, Staple Design, Shop Architects, Theme Magazine and Psyop. Winners this year will take home a Puma Glow in the Dark Bike and afforded the opportunity to design a Mongolian BBQ Puma Basket. It’s unfortunate HYPEBEAST will not be in attendance as we know Chinese people are only good at three things, kung-fu, mathematics and ping-pong. The mayhem takes place this Friday, check the below for details.

Digging deep into the Puma archives, Australian sneaker magazine Sneaker Freaker looked to the Puma Disc Blaze as the basis for their most recent collaboration. The profile of the “Blaze of Glory” starts off low and beings to rise as you hit the heel. The shoe will come complete with shark teeth accessories (a tribute to what we assume is SF’s Australian heritage) as well as multiple sets of laces and insoles. Available starting April 26th, 2008.

At the culmination of the 1968 Olympics, newly crowned 200 meter Olympic champion and record holder Tommie Smith made a gesture which would lead to controversy and ultimately banning him from the Olympics. His act of a raised fist on the podium alongside the 3rd place finisher and compatriot John Carlos while barefooted was to represent black poverty. To commemorate this event, a two sneaker collection of Suedes will release later this month with a repeating fist monogram along the upper as well as include golden accents. Available in August of 2008.

Puma’s most popular lifestyle running model is making an appearance in this most recent upcoming Yo! MTV Raps collection. Although not the most flashiest Yo! MTV Raps x Puma to come through the ranks, this particular RS100 represents the whole concept quite well with a tonal leopard print and pink highlights.
