Fred Perry is a British heritage brand founded by three-time Wimbledon champion tennis player, Fred Perry. Perry won the adulation of British fans not only for his irrepressible skill but also for his style and humble beginnings, which contrasted with the privileged backgrounds of many other players at the All England Club.
Perry’s venture into sportswear began in the late 1940s when he designed and created the very first sweatband with former Austrian footballer Tibby Wegner. They adopted the Laurel Wreath symbol as their logo, a testament to Perry’s 1934 victory at Wimbledon. Perry and Wegner’s next venture involved the development of knitted cotton sports shirts identifiable by its original tipped design and laurel wreath embroidery. Despite being developed as a piece of sports apparel, the Fred Perry Pique became synonymous with musically driven British subcultures such as mods and skinheads, right into to the 1990s Britpop movement when it was sported by influential bands such as Blur and Oasis. Keeping the brand innovative through collaborations with respected artists and designers such as Raf Simons, Richard Nicoll, and Amy Winehouse, Fred Perry continues to affirm its street fashion credibility with which consumers still identify today.

Japanese store Eliminator has taken to one of Fred Perry’s classics in the Bomber Jacket in a special collaboration for the 2008 fall/winter season. The vintage and timeless aesthetic of the 60s Bomber Jacket undergoes a contemporary refinement with the use of a shiny body complete with bright accented colors. Three colors in total are available, while each share the same silver body, yellow, blue and orange accents can be seen. Available now at Eliminator.
A new collection of polka dot polos from Fred Perry have released exclusively at Dover Street Market. From its humble beginnings as a brand based on the success of tennis player Fred Perry, items such as the polo have become synonymous with the brand and its trademark logo. Four colors of the polo are available such as black/white, white/black, white/navy and navy/white. Available at shop.doverstreetmarket.com.
We’ve seen a really high volume of Fred Perry products as of late, with a spotlight on high profile collaborations with Beams, Eliminator, Junya Watanabe and more. Fred Perry has really come a long way from its Wimbledon roots, and has fully immersed itself in fashion. It was only a matter of time before they released more footwear to continue the success they had with the COMME des GARCONS tennis shoes from a while back. Legendary brand Fred Perry has now added Head Porter Plus to its list of recent projects. Just yesterday saw the British label seek creative designs from &Sons on a series of polos. Here’s a further collection of polos from Head Porter Plus. HPP’s influence is predictable in its design with simple bodies highlighted by the use of various accent colors. The Head Porter Annex and the honeyee Store will be among two of the retailers for these products.

Fred Perry is an Iconic brand, another original brand with 5 decades of history. Fred Perry himself was world tennis champion in 1928 and in 1952 started making the slim-fit tennis shirts that were revolutionary at the time.
A few decades later, his clothes became the uniform for original street cultures in the UK such as Mods and Skinheads. Fred Perry has maintained its connection with culture as well as sport, and do alot of contemporary collabos.
The most famous collabo is with Comme des Garçons, but they even let Staple Design in on a piece. They have an extensive music part of their site, and have a small feature on a ska-punk group, staying true to their original fan base that rmade them famous. On the retail front, member’s only CELUX represents a lifestyle store whose stock of products was the quintessence of rarity and luxury with many brands offering exclusive CELUX designed products for the boutique. Having said that, CELUX will shut down shop later this year with a last run of products in collaboration with Fred Perry being created by various creative agencies such as Staple Design (NY), Libertine (NY), Duckie Brown (NY), Chatav Ectabit (NY), HTC (LA), Conrad Leach (UK), A Love Movement (LA), Suzukike (Japan), Jean Diadem (Japan), and Green (Japan). Here’s a specific look at Staple Design’s offering inspired by Elton John track, “Goodbye The Yellow Brick Road”. A black and white version are both limited to a three shirt run.

Some pieces from Fred Perry’s Japanese Collection has recently been unveiled on the site of online retailer Zozotown. The main focus of this recent release revolves predominately around outerwear and tops with a wide variety of jackets and sweaters. However some other pieces are included such as accessories and shoes.
