Description
First endorsing a sneaker for adidas in 1986, Ewing founded Ewing Athletics in 1989 with Next Sports, becoming the first professional athlete to own their own signature sneaker brand. With the help of Ewing’s agent David Falk, Ewing Athletics was earning approximately $100 million USD by 1990, and experienced increasing sales as Ewing’s own popularity grew. Steadily expanding outside of basketball into cross training, running and even hiking footwear, Ewing Athletics also sold apparel, including tees, tank tops, and leather jackets. However, facing internal challenges, Ewing and his partners were forced to shut down the brand in 1996. In 2012, David Goldberg and his company, GPF Footwear LLC, successfully teamed up with Patrick Ewing to resurrect the line and reintroduce it to the market to capitalize on the current retro sneaker trend. Reintroducing the cult 33 Hi Retro sneaker to 33 stores nationwide in 2012, Ewing Athletics continues to re-release models from the ‘90s.
