BEAMS is a prominent Japanese contemporary fashion chain and label based in Tokyo, Japan, in 1976. BEAMS is founded by Etsuzo Shitara with Osamu Shigematsu, who is the store manager and have managed the Shinko Inc. cardboard packaging business. BEAMS began a push for international expansion, opening up a women’s clothing store in Hong Kong in 2006, and subsequently accounts in Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Bangkok. Currently, Yo Shitara is the company’s CEO, with BEAMS boasting over 70 domestic stores and sales profits of ¥44.6 billion JPY in 2006.

One of Japan’s finest retailers in Beams has teamed up with Converse on the legendary and timeless Chuck Taylor All Star Hi. The glossy patent leather finish includes matching lace holes and a leather lining. Black and white are both available now through Beams.

The ongoing collaboration between Beams and Head Porter recently included a briefcase as part of their 5th anniversary. Suitable for spring and summer, the bag is made from canvas with special treatments. Though it looks like leather in the pictures, a hand rubbed treatment was used to achieve this look. “The fabric of “FREE STYLE” has a unique texture of the contraction which is made by the piece-dyed high-density canvas #10 with clear polyurethane pressure bonding. Every piece was finished by hand-rubbing to make the leather-like texture. As one of the leading retailers in Japan, Beams and their in-store label International Gallery Beams has released some new shirts as part of their spring collection. The assortment of simple button-up western shirts are constructed with various checkered fabrics as well as gingham. Available now through Beams.
One of the original graffiti artist from New York, Futura, has teamed up with the Japanese t-shirt brand, Beams T, for some products including a t-shirt and a cap that features Futura’s handwriting of the words “Beams T”. It looks like there’s another t-shirt with Futura’s signature atom logo on it as well but we’re not too sure if those are for sale.
These products are now on display at the Beams T shop in Harajuku, Japan.

Mastermind Japan will be taking this years ward for the most collaborations. Although I don’t believe anyone is complaining, the company has set a blistering pace this season. This time, they’ve teamed up with Jack Purcell and Beams. The Jack Purcell shoe has been the forefront of many trends over the years and with this pair limited to 1800, the company hopes to duplicate there previous success.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a very successful popular Japanese anime that started showing in October 1995. Based on the manga by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, this animation is about a paramilitary organization called NERV that fights against monstrous beings called Angels. This animation is so influential that it still lingers in pop culture till this day. Beams T, in commemoration of this anime has created a collection of Evangelion x Beams T t-shirts. Dickies is often seen on your local blue collar worker and everybody’s favorite pop rocker Avril Lavigne. They have recently teamed up with Japanese retailer/brand Beams creating a pair of houndstooth patterned pants. Ironically the people that wears Dickies for its original purposes probably won’t ever set foot in a Beams let alone heard of the popular Japanese brand. Available now at Beams.
As part of Beams T’s ongoing art consortium project with t-shirts, American label RVCA has produced two different designs. The designs include the Leinesisms by Matt Leines and Bunny Horns by Ron Cameron. Matt Leines’ previous works have been included in the likes of Vice Magazine and Loyal Magazine. Ron Cameron rose to prominence as a popular skate graphic artist. Available now at Beams T.
For those familiar with Jim Philips’ work, he has established himself as one of the most iconic and well known graphic designers of his generation within the skate and surf scene. While previous collaborations have resulted in a Screaming Hand figure, Beams and Medicom Toy teamed up to produce a Screaming Leg figure which holds similar characteristics to the Screaming Hand design with the exception of more personified figure, possessing both limbs and a surfboard. Wired and Japanese label/store Beams have worked together on a new series of watches. Two different models in white/gold and black/red colorways were commissioned. The AGAE700 series represents a more classic look while the AGEL700 series is created with a more contemporary feel in mind. Look for these to be available at Beams.
With their last collaboration in 2006 behind them, Beams has teamed up with Nike again for another collection of products based around dot patterns. The four different items as part of this latest release includes a windrunner, down vest, cap and long-sleeve shirt. Each piece is available in either white or black. Available now at Beams.
