Portfolio magazine recently did an extensive feature outlining the rise to prominence of A Bathing Ape. Going into detail about the solid foundation and business plan created by Bape’s creator, Nigo, the article also covers the complexity regarding Bape’s popularity. Although Bape has achieved super stardom in Japan in the past, it has now reached a point where in some realms Bape has become the laughing stock of the fashion community. This oblivion is offset by Bape’s foreign popularity where Bape is still a relatively new concept and popular amongst celebrities. If you have a chance, check out the article and look for this little nugget of gold from none other then Hiroshi Fujiwara; “I just wonder how he feels when he sees ugly people wearing his clothes. If you go to the countryside in America and people are wearing Bathing Ape, that’s not very cool.”
