Take-Two and Rockstar Games Issue Subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord Following 'GTA 6' Leaks
Parent company files DMCA requests in federal court to identify alleged infringers sharing gameplay footage.
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have officially filed federal court subpoenas seeking identifying information from Microsoft and Discord following leaks of Grand Theft Auto 6. The legal actions filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York target copyrighted material, including audiovisual content, artwork, dialogue, and creative elements posted online.
The subpoenas come after a hacker group calling itself CyberLeek shared multiple gameplay clips obtained from an alleged playable build of the upcoming open-world title. According to court documents, copyrighted GTA 6 material was uploaded to Microsoft’s GitHub developer platform, while infringing media was circulated across various Discord servers. Discord confirmed it complies with valid DMCA subpoenas, while Scott Van Vliet, CTO of Microsoft’s Xbox division, stated that the company is working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to safeguard intellectual property.
Despite the unauthorized leaks, preparations for the game’s launch continue forward. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously noted an exceptional start to preorders during an August earnings call. Additionally, Netflix is slated to debut an exclusive “extended look” at the title prior to its broader video release across public platforms.
Grand Theft Auto 6 officially launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with Netflix debuting an exclusive extended preview on August 27.
