LA creative and soccer personality Janella Hernandez headed to the FIFA Fan Festival presented by DoorDash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum last weekend to find out what tournament fandom actually looks like on the ground. Designed as a gathering place where supporters can watch matches, celebrate their teams, and connect through food, music, and culture, the Fan Festival provided the perfect backdrop for Hernandez to explore how Los Angeles’ Mexican community was showing up for one of soccer’s biggest moments.

Moving through the crowd with microphone in hand, Hernandez focused on the people creating the atmosphere. Everywhere she looked, fans were turning the event into a showcase of personal style and cultural pride. Oversized jerseys, custom pieces, and colorful ribbons woven into hairstyles reflected the deep connection between soccer, identity, and heritage. Conversations quickly revealed a common theme: for many attendees, supporting Mexico wasn’t just about the result on the scoreboard, but about sharing a collective experience with family, friends, and fellow supporters.

Hernandez brought her own personality into the mix, challenging fans to juggling contests and testing their skills before asking a simple question: “What will you do if Mexico scores?” The answer came back instantly. A chorus of “Viva Mexico!” echoed through the festival grounds from a crowd already operating at full volume.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. In the middle of one of Hernandez’s interviews, Mexico found the back of the net and secured a 1-0 win over South Africa. The celebration that followed said everything. Strangers embraced, chants erupted across the venue, and the emotion of the moment spread through the crowd. It was a reminder that events like the FIFA Fan Festival are about creating spaces where culture, community, and fandom can come together in real time—and in Los Angeles, that spirit is only gaining momentum as the tournament continues.

While the flagship event has wrapped on June 14, DoorDash continues to support fans across Los Angeles through match-day transportation, watch parties, and local activations throughout the tournament. Hernandez’s visit offered a glimpse into that community spirit, which she also explores in her DoorDash City Guide, highlighting the local spots where food, fandom, and soccer culture naturally come together during the tournament.
