Feng Chen Wang kicked off Shanghai Fashion Week with a celebratory runway show, marking the Chinese-born designer’s 10th year operating her London-based label.
Along with featuring Olympic skaters Liu Shaolin and Liu Shaoang and pop stars like Lu Keran, the show debuted Feng Chen Wang’s first full women’s collection, translating Wang’s distinct style into a more feminine interpretation.
Centered around the theme of “Two Forces as One,” models appeared in pairs at times, mirroring each other in closely matched looks. Borrowing the theme from Feng Chen Wang’s Paris debut, the “two forces” reflect the fluid balance of masculine and feminine sensibilities. In honor of the brand’s decade, the language of “Life and Love” is reprised, reviving the concept that originated in Wang’s first collection at the Royal College of Art.
Long, faux-fur trims contrasted with smooth, sleek leather, while accents of cobalt blue and crimson red offset the darker palette that dominates the collection. In the all-new womenswear, fabric manipulations emphasize texture, including a plush white fabric with jacquard designs.
Further contrast comes in the interplay of casual everyday clothing and office attire. Suits are paired with ultra-plush fur-collared jackets, a pinstriped men’s shirt is worn with green leather pants, and a more casual men’s look is completed with a black skirt and a pink blouse with a pussy-bow collar.
The presentation was just the start of Feng Chen Wang’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, which also included an additional runway presentation that took over the Apple Store in Jing’an. Today, the designer was also named the winner of the Visionary of the Year award at the inaugural New Wave Fashion Awards in Shanghai.
