DHL and SUBJECT. Unveil an Upcycled Bag Collection Made From Used Uniforms
Transforming waste materials into next-generation products, the collection delves into collaboration — tapping Japanese artisans and Made-in-Japan technology.
Masanaka Sakao’s new brand, SUBJECT., has released an upcycled bag collection in collaboration with DHL, the international shipping company that has consistently supported the fashion industry from a logistics perspective.
This collection reimagines uniforms that were used at DHL’s couriers across its global transport network. After reaching the end of their service life, they were reconstructed through the creative vision of SUBJECT. The bags elevate the tough, authentic texture of the materials, refined by Sakao’s perspective. Skilled artisans from a workshop in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture and Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, participated in the planning and production of the products. Furthermore, a portion of the sales will be donated to the NPO Made in Japan Project, contributing to the preservation of regional industries and traditional craftsmanship.
SEEKER CREATIVE STUDIO, a creative collective founded by Sakao, the founder of TATRAS, has proposed numerous sustainable brands and projects, including MSK. The project began when this ethos resonated with DHL’s stance. Tony Khan, President and Representative Director of DHL, commented on the initiative: “Our uniforms are marked with the pride and history of our staff who have been active on the front lines of global logistics. We feel great significance in seeing them resurrected as products with new value. We are extremely pleased to support the challenge of the like-minded SEEKER CREATIVE STUDIO through cross-border e-commerce.”
The collection is now available for purchase. For details and future developments, check out the official SUBJECT. website. For more information on DHL’s initiatives to reduce environmental impact, check out GoGreen Plus.
