Summary
- Kevin Parker’s Tame Impala has returned with its first solo track in over thee years, “End Of Summer”
- The cut lands on streaming after about a week of social media teasers and also arrives alongside a new music video directed by Julian Klincewicz
Tame Impala is officially back. After a slew of social media teasers, the Kevin Parker-fronted project has lifted the curtain on its first unaccompanied track since its Barbie cut from 2023 “Journey To The Real World,” and, before that, “Wings of Time,” for the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film, which was the group’s first solo follow-up to The Slow Rush and its accompanying The Slow Rush: B-Sides & Remixes LP.
Entitled “End Of Summer,” the seven-minute track arrives after a rollout of Instagram posts, tracing back to Parker’s grand return to the social platform back in May with a proper catch-up photo dump. Just last week, Parker posted another “been busy” dump to his feed, which featured a flurry of flicks in which Parker is seen making music.
At the top of this week, Parker shared the first preview of “End Of Summer,” leaving it rather enigmatic as to just exactly what Tame’s imminent drop would entail. After a few more teasers throughout the week, it was clear a new single was on the way.
“A new era begins. This is the first thing I want you guys to hear. I give you ‘End Of Summer,’” Parker wrote earlier today on Instagram when the new track dropped. “As is tradition, go and find your favourite sound system 🎧😌. The video was shot in a place even dustier than my drum sounds. Hope you like it. Off we goooooo.”
The seven-minute offering, per a press release, draws sonic inspiration from the acid house summer of 1989, and “to free parties of the mid-90s” as well as “bush doofs in outback paddocks,” ultimately ushering in a nostalgia-soaked new era for Parker’s project.
It wouldn’t be a proper Tame Impala comeback without a captivating new visual to come with. “End Of Summer” arrives alongside a striking split-screen music video directed by Julian Klincewicz.
