Summary

The Hobonichi Techo's 2027 "Stride" cover is a collaboration with POTR, the lifestyle label rooted in Yoshida & Co.'s bag-making craft

Built from matte, soft-touch nylon, the cover is shaped like a small bag with a removable shoulder strap so the techo can be carried hands-free

It launches in two versions, a peacock blue A6 Original and an evergreen A5 Cousin, each with a full system of interior and exterior pockets

Hobonichi Techo has revealed “Stride,” a new cover for 2027 made in collaboration with POTR, a lifestyle brand drawing on the artisanship of Yoshida & Co. Rather than treating the cover as a simple sleeve, the two have reimagined it as a compact carry piece, wrapping the planner in bonding-treated nylon and adding a removable strap so the whole thing can be slung over a shoulder like a bag.

The material sets the tone. Each cover is cut from a supple nylon finished with Yoshida & Co.’s signature bonding treatment, giving it a matte surface that stays soft to the touch. That fabric expertise is the throughline of the partnership: POTR operates as a lifestyle offshoot of Yoshida & Co., the Japanese manufacturer behind the long-running PORTER label, and the “Stride” cover leans on that heritage of everyday carry goods rather than treating the techo as pure stationery.

Function is where the bag concept earns its name. A front flap pocket keeps small items like earphones within reach, while a back pocket closes with a one-touch snap fastener sized for the things you grab most often. Unzip the cover and the interior opens into a considered storage layout: three card pockets and a clear pocket on the left, a zippered mesh pocket on the right, and a pen hook that takes slim pens directly or clips thicker ones. The included black shoulder strap detaches and adjusts to length, so the cover can travel closed and hands-free.

The two sizes are tuned to different planners and different palettes. The A6 Original arrives in peacock blue, a refined shade meant to read as a stylish accent against any outfit, with an interior lined in navy and light gray and a single-compartment front flap pocket. The larger A5 Cousin comes in evergreen, a deep, composed green that settles easily into a workday or a day off, paired with a green-and-beige interior and a front flap divided into two sections for tidier organization. The Cousin’s back pocket also runs roomier, with space for a smartphone alongside documents. A circular logo stitched to the front finishes both.

Taken together, the two covers make a clear pitch to the Hobonichi faithful, a community that treats the techo less as an agenda and more as a daily companion. By building the cover to leave the house on its own, POTR and Hobonichi Techo are nudging the planner further into everyday-carry territory, somewhere between a notebook and the small bag you already reach for on the way out the door.

Both “Stride” covers go on sale September 1 at 11 a.m. Japan time through the Hobonichi Techo online store.
