Originally released in September 2025, the base tier model is projected to sit at the top of the mainline consumer lineup for roughly 18 full months. Current timeline reports indicate the standard successor will not arrive until the spring of 2027.

This impending 550-day reign easily eclipses the longstanding benchmark originally set by the iPhone 4. Launching in June 2010, the glass-backed device famously held the top crown for nearly 16 months after the company intentionally shifted its traditional summer release schedule to the now-standard fall window. The extended launch delay severely frustrated consumers waiting for an entirely overhauled design, only to receive the visually identical 4S update in October 2011. The successor instead introduced internal capability upgrades like the debut of Siri and significantly improved camera optics.
