Casio's full-metal "A1000DN-7" is set to return on July 24 in Japan after selling out twice since its original release

The stainless steel piece features a matte hairline-finished case and dial with a retro silhouette rooted in the brand's 1970s and 1980s design language

A grey cloth band accompanies the metal bracelet in special-edition packaging, positioning the set as one of the most versatile entries in the Casio Vintage Collection

Casio is preparing a third Japanese run of its “A1000DN-7” on July 24, bringing back a full-metal piece from the Casio Classic Premium Series that has sold out on two separate occasions since its debut.

The watch first earned its reputation the hard way. The “A1000DN-7” moved through its initial allocation almost immediately, and a 2025 restock met the same fate. That kind of consecutive sell-out momentum, on a watch positioned well below the luxury threshold, speaks to a demand pattern that goes beyond hype cycles.

It also speaks to something broader happening within Casio’s own catalog. The “A1000DN-7” sits within the Casio Vintage Collection, a line that traces its DNA back to the rectangular digital watches Casio began producing in the late 1970s. Those early models, slim and utilitarian, became unlikely style objects across subcultures from Tokyo to New York, showing up on the wrists of architects, musicians, and filmmakers who valued function over flash. The A1000 series represents a modern reinterpretation of that lineage: same iconic rectangular silhouette, but rendered in full stainless steel with upgraded finishing.

What made the full-metal treatment such a turning point for Casio’s affordable digitals was the implication that these weren’t just beater watches anymore. Casio had already tested that thesis with the full-metal G-SHOCK GMW-B5000 line, which recast the classic square G-SHOCK in stainless steel and titanium and became one of the brand’s most sought-after series. The A1000 range applied the same logic to the Vintage Collection, elevating a silhouette that had spent decades as the most understated watch in any room.

On the “A1000DN-7” itself, the execution is deliberate. The case and bezel are stainless steel throughout, finished with a matte hairline texture that strips away the gloss typical of budget digitals. That same hairline treatment carries across the dial face and the solid-link metal bracelet, creating a monochromatic silver palette that reads as restrained rather than flashy. The case measures 39.6 by 38 millimeters at just 7.3 millimeters thick, keeping the profile slim enough for a dress shirt cuff. Mineral glass covers the display, and the watch carries a basic water resistance rating.

Where the “A1000DN-7” distinguishes itself from the standard A1000 lineup is in the box set format. Casio packages the watch with a secondary grey cloth band alongside the metal bracelet, housed in special-edition packaging. The interchangeable system lets the wearer shift between the structured formality of the stainless steel link band and the softer, more casual register of the cloth strap, effectively giving the set two distinct personalities without requiring a second watch.

Functionality stays rooted in the Casio digital playbook. A high-brightness LED backlight with Super Illuminator technology, a 1/100-second stopwatch, daily alarm, hourly time signal, and auto-calendar handle the practical requirements. The watch runs on a CR1616 battery with an approximate three-year lifespan and keeps time within 30 seconds per month.

The Casio A1000DN-7 re-releases on July 24, exclusively in Japan. Stay tuned for news of a Stateside release.
