Vintage Style Research is launching its inaugural publication, Archive Vol. 1: New Generation of Vintage Collectors, at a specialized Golden Week pop-up within Daikanyama Tsutaya Books. Produced in collaboration with international denim expert Mohsin Sajid of ENDRIME, the release serves as a high-fidelity technical catalog of historically significant garments.
The centerpiece of the launch is the limited denim hardback edition, which employs Stella Blu’s Cooltrans technology to achieve a hyper-realistic scan and print of antique 120-year-old LEVI’S miner jeans. This scanning method allows the cover to retain the tactile nuances and visual depth of the original denim. Inside, the 376-page bilingual volume features editorial oversight by Mohsin Sajid and art direction by Sadia Rafique, cataloging over 70 rare pieces including an 1870 LEVI’S fragment and 1901 miner jeans.
Expanding into the physical space, the GRS collaboration utilizes technical Photo Print techniques to offer a “creative reproduction” of 1940s First Pattern U.S. Navy denim work trousers. This material-focused approach is mirrored in a technical cap and a “Sun Fade” wash T-shirt featuring typography by Tokyo-based designer Yu Miyama. The exhibit is further bolstered by an archive display, allowing attendees to view the actual 19th-century garments digitized within the book.
The Archive Vol. 1 pop-up runs from April 24 through May 5 at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books, with author signing events scheduled for April 29 and April 30.
