The new adaptation aims to “fix” these barriers by utilizing modern animation techniques and a significantly tighter narrative structure to ensure the story remains accessible for decades to come.

The remake is set to depart from the traditional “children’s timeslot” style of the original, with WIT Studio aiming for the high-quality, mature artistic strength seen in their previous hits like Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga. Wada emphasized that while the studio fully respects Toei Animation’s legacy, they are committed to delivering a version that “shatters” fan expectations through fluid, modern visuals and more intense storytelling. The project is currently benefiting from a substantial Netflix budget, which allows the creative team – including director Masashi Koizuka – to focus on quality without the typical constraints of weekly television production.

While a specific release date has not yet been confirmed, Wada noted that the production is currently in full swing and targeting a global audience to compete with Western entertainment giants like Hollywood and Disney.
