Disney‘s long-gestating live-action project centered around Tinker Bell has finally found its wings. According to Variety, the Peter Pan fairy is officially getting her own live-action television series, simply titled Tink, which is currently in development for Disney+. Following over a decade of false starts as a standalone feature film, the project has been completely retooled as a television show and is reportedly now considered a “high priority” for the streaming platform.

To bring the magical world of Neverland to the small screen, Disney has enlisted some heavyweight television talent. Friday Night Lights veterans Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter are officially on board to write and executive produce the series. They will be joined by former Disney Branded Television president Gary Marsh, who will serve as a producer alongside Selfish Mermaid’s Quinn Haberman, with 20th Television acting as the studio.

Disney’s quest to give Tinker Bell her own live-action spotlight has been a remarkably long journey. The studio’s plans date back to 2010, when a “fish-out-of-water” romantic comedy feature was announced with Elizabeth Banks set to star. When that iteration failed to materialize, the studio announced a new revisionist movie project in 2015 with Reese Witherspoon attached to star and produce. Ultimately, that film also stalled out in development hell. The character’s most recent live-action appearance was in the 2023 Disney+ movie Peter Pan & Wendy, where she was portrayed by Yara Shahidi.

Currently, there is no official word on who will step into the green dress and take on the titular role, nor is there an estimated release window. As Tink officially ramps up development, fans will have to keep a close eye out for casting announcements in the coming months.
