Revolution has linked up with Christiaan van der Klaauw for another collaborative Haute Horlogerie timepiece — introducing the Grand Planetarium Eccentric Si14, a breathtaking reference that stands as the world’s only mechanical wristwatch capable of displaying the real-time, eccentric orbits of all eight planets in our Solar System.
Based on a model originally introduced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CVDK, this extraordinarily complex timepiece incorporates an astonishing 3,338 gear teeth to faithfully track the true astronomical periods of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. As the most complicated watch ever created in the brand’s atelier, it represents the combined vision of three generations of CVDK leadership, paired with contemporary design input from Revolution.
This collaboration reimagines the traditional astronomical complication through a distinctly modern lens, most notably with its mirrored, oxidized silicium (silicon) dial. The highly advanced sandwich dial creates an iridescent surface that dynamically shifts between deep purple, green and black depending on the light.
In a first for the brand, the miniature planets and their orbital paths are hand-painted with Super-LumiNova, allowing the entire solar system to glow brilliantly in the dark. This intricate dial is housed within a 44mm bead-blasted 316L stainless steel case that has undergone a low-temperature carbon diffusion treatment, yielding an exceptional scratch resistance of 1,200 Vickers Hardness — comparable to the hardness of ceramic.
The Revolution Grand Planetarium Eccentric Si14 is strictly limited to just six pieces worldwide, with deliveries scheduled to commence four months after the receipt of an order. Presented on a canvas leather strap with purple stitch lining, this exclusive limited edition is available through Revolution, priced at 145,000 CHF (approx. $183,190 USD).
