- The 7097 introduces a white Grand Feu enamel dial and gray finishes
Breguet is revitalizing its iconic Tradition collection with three striking new iterations of the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde. Originally debuted in 2005, the series pays homage to the souscription and tact watches that Abraham-Louis Breguet conceptualized in the late 18th century. The new models – reference 7037, 7038 and 7097 – incorporate subtle but impactful design updates, including the use of traditional white Grand Feu enamel dials, Breguet Arabic numerals and new movement finishes, effectively bridging the Maison’s historic origins with contemporary watchmaking.
The Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7037 embraces a bold new aesthetic, featuring an entirely blue movement for the first time. Housed in a 38mm 18k white gold case, the dial is highlighted by an offset hours display at 12 o’clock, crafted from white Grand Feu enamel and featuring Breguet Arabic numerals — a nod to the founder’s radical choice in 1799. The retrograde seconds hand, positioned at 10 o’clock, adds a dynamic element to the dial. The model is powered by the self-winding Calibre 505 SR, boasting a 50-hour power reserve and a historically inspired half-moon oscillating weight in 950 platinum. This piece is paired with a blue rubber strap featuring light grey stitching, emphasizing its modern appeal
As for the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7038 and 7097 reference, they serve to further demonstrate Breguet’s mastery of both engineering and artistic crafts. The 7038 is a dazzling blend of Haute Horlogerie and jewelry, housed in a 37mm 18k rhodium-plated white gold case with a bezel set with 58 brilliant-cut diamonds. It’s also the first Tradition model to feature a black aventurine glass dial, creating a sense of visual depth against the deep black finish of the shotblasted bridges and mainplate.
Meanwhile, the 40mm 18k rose gold 7097 introduces a new white Grand Feu enamel dial paired with a striking charcoal grey barrel cover. This contrast emphasizes the kinematic harmony of the movement, highlighting the rose-gilt gear train and the iconic pare-chute shock absorber positioned at 4 o’clock.
