Set during the winter of 1985, the series fills the narrative void between the Mind Flayer’s possession of Will Byers and the opening of Starcourt Mall. Animated by Flying Bark Productions, the visual language pays direct homage to era-specific staples like The Real Ghostbusters and He-Man. Robles noted that this medium allows the team to explore “Hawkins Lab science meets Upside Down matter” without the usual constraints of practical effects.
The project features a new voice cast, including Jeremy Jordan as Steve Harrington, and follows the core group as they navigate a new threat beneath the snow-covered town.
