Motorsport fans and adult builders have a new massive project to tackle. Today, LEGO unveiled its highly anticipated 1:8-scale Technic replica of the McLaren MCL39, the very car that dominated the track to win the 2025 Formula 1 constructors’ and drivers’ championships. Packed with 1,675 pieces and an array of functional mechanical details, the new Technic set aims to translate real race-winning engineering into a hands-on building experience.
Designed primarily for adult enthusiasts, the LEG Technic McLaren MCL39 faithfully replicates the vehicle driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri during their championship-winning 2025 season. Builders will construct functional steering, suspension, a working gearbox, and a differential. Removing the engine cover reveals an incredibly detailed V-6 engine.
New for this 2026 release is the inclusion of a functional Drag Reduction System (DRS) in the rear spoiler. This dynamic aerodynamic mechanism activates when the builder removes the engine cover and shifts the car into high gear, adding an extra layer of interactive realism to the display model.
The LEGO Technic McLaren MCL39 F1 Car (Set #42228) is available for preorder now online. The set will officially hit store shelves and online retailers worldwide on March 1.
